Homeshare update

Westside Housing, St Vincent de Paul Society SA and Shelter SA are working together to bring Homeshare to South Australia and we have an exciting update for you!

Homeshare is a tried and true platform that is evidence-based and put into practice all over the world, safely and successfully matching and supporting people to share their homes and their lives.

Bringing a Homeshare service to South Australia supports the Recommendations of the Taskforce on Older Women and Housing Security, which in September 2023 identified preventative and responsive approaches to address older women's housing security in South Australia.

The recommendations the State Government has pledged to continue implementing, highlight that addressing housing insecurity requires government, non-government and the broader South Australian community to invest in initiatives that improve housing security for older South Australian women. This Homeshare Pilot is one such initiative, as Westside Housing and Vinnies SA are proudly supporting the employment of the Homeshare Coordinator position with their own funds and we acknowledge their vision and commitment to assisting people who desperately need a safe place to stay.

Today we are inviting older, single, female homeowners to express their interest in learning more about how Homeshare works. We are not quite ready to invite people who need a place to stay to join us yet, but we are hoping we can do this very soon, especially since we know there is so much need in the community.

For more information, the Homeshare website is now live and we await your call!

The AHI acknowledges the tireless efforts of those working within the homelessness sector, supporting the thousands of people experiencing homelessness and searching for meaningful pathways to live normal, productive and healthy lives. Our #HomelessnessWeek2025 sector forum in Sydney saw over 150 leaders, workers, politicians, policy makers, social impact collaborators, change makers and – most importantly - people with lived experience come together to talk about the impact of homelessness and share innovative responses within our community. Collaboration is key and the vibe in the room was inspiring. Real people making real differences. But we know it is far from enough and we must all strive to do more. We commend the NSW Minns Government, in particular the Hon Rose Jackson MLC, for their bold commitment to ‘make homelessness rare, brief and not repeated because people have a safe home and the support to keep it’ through the release of the NSW Homelessness Strategy 2025-2035. Thanks to Rebecca Pinkstone CEO Homes NSW and Dom Rowe CEO Homelessness NSW for their strong leadership and commitment to ending homelessness and providing more people with a home. The AHI continues to support and connect the workers who turn up, show up and get things done. Every single day.
